The most innovative designers consciously reject the standard option box and cultivate an appetite for thinking wrong.

Mutanabbi Street Broadside Project; read below to find more out about my print.

-On March 5th 2007, a car bomb was exploded on Mutanabbi Street in Baghdad.

Mutanabbi Street is in a mixed Shia-Sunni area. More than 30 people were killed and more than 100 were wounded. Mutanabbi Street, the historic centre of Baghdad bookselling, holds bookstores and outdoor bookstalls, cafes, stationery shops, and even tea and tobacco shops. It has been the heart and soul of the Baghdad literary and intellectual community. -

Letterpress printers were asked to contribute a personal response to the bombing on Mutanabbi Street. My class at CCS being one of them. I chose a poem and created the print above for it. This is the poem I chose—-> In the Valley of Love by Genny Lim. When I am finished my prints will be viewed at the Florida Atlantic University/Jaffe Center for Book Arts, archived on the website for this cause, and some will be auctioned off for Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). Some will also go to the poet who wrote the poem.

I’m excited ;)
